Brandon Moreno is quite comfortable in these types of situations.
For the ninth consecutive outing, the Mexican star was involved in a fight scheduled to go five rounds at UFC on ESPN 64 on Saturday night. That experience paid off, as Moreno outdueled Steve Erceg for 25 minutes to capture a hard-fought unanimous decision victory at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. After suffering a two-fight skid and taking some time away from the sport, “Assassin Baby” has recovered to post consecutive triumphs over Amir Albazi and Erceg to re-establish himself as one of the top flyweights in the world. Erceg, meanwhile, has endured a tough draw of late following a rapid rise to prominence, losing successive outings against Alexandre Pantoja, Kai Kara-France and Moreno.
Earlier on the UFC Mexico card, Lupita Godinez banked two rounds on the scorecards, then survived a late push from Julia Polastri in the final frame in an entertaining strawweight tilt. After back-to-back losses against Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern, it was a much-needed return to the win column for the 11th-ranked Mexican standout.
