Boxing: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Play-by-Play, Results & Round Scoring

Sherdog’s live Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul coverage will begin with the first preliminary bout at 5:30 p.m. ET. J.L. Kirven will have results of the undercard and will be joined by Brian Knapp and Mike Fridley for full play-by-play and round-by-round scoring of the main event at approximately 12 a.m. ET.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul

Round 1

Anticipation builds with both parties now in the ring, as the 58-year-old Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) faces Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) in his first professionally sanctioned boxing match in nearly two decades. Paul—who was 5 months old when Tyson was disqualified for biting off a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997—will have three-inch height and five-inch reach advantages. Referee Mark Calo-oy administers the law and order. They meet in the center of the ring. Tyson flicks out a few jabs. Paul clinches. Tyson sneaks in a left hook, then an overhand right. Paul clinches, making the older man work. Jab from Paul, followed by two more. He sneaks in a right hand, then gets back on the jab. Tyson closes the distance with a right hook to the body.

Round 2

Paul calls on his jab to start the second round. Right hand to the body from the Ohio native. Tyson fires off a left hook. The former champion looks unsteady. Paul pops him with back-to-back jabs and narrowly misses a right uppercut. They clinch. Left hook from Paul. Tyson not throwing nearly as much now, fatigue likely becoming an issue. Paul continues to feed him jabs to close the round.

Round 3

Tyson storms out of the corner firing left hooks. Paul triples up on his left hook and wobbles the legend. Double jab followed by an overhand right from Paul. Reality might be closing in on Tyson. Paul feints, then throws a jab and resets. Double jab from Paul followed by a right uppercut. Tyson not offering much in return. Right hook to the body from Tyson, followed by a right hook to the head. Action stalls at the end of the round.

Round 4

Paul gets on his jab to start Round 4. Right cross from the Youtuber. Tyson guards his chin but just is not offering much in terms of offense. Paul looking more and more comfortable. Jabs from Paul to the body and head. Nice one-two from Paul. Jab to the body from Paul. Tyson tries to stay light on his feet, but this is not going as he had hoped.

Round 5

Tyson needs a miracle, with the fifth round underway. Paul moves to the center and feeds “Iron Mike” a series of jabs. Jab from Tyson. Sweeping right hook from Paul glances off Tyson’s chin. One-two from Paul. He follows repeated jabs with a left hook. Tyson gets off a left hook. Paul carrying his hands low, showing less and less respect for the former champion. Still a lot of one-way traffic here. Paul connects with a right hand at the end of the round.

Round 6

Three rounds to go. They trade jabs in the center of the ring. Paul circles out of danger. Jabs from Paul, followed by a right hook. Tyson looks increasingly unsure on his feet. Three-punch volley from Paul, who continues to hunt the right uppercut. Forty seconds left, and there are no signs of a possible momentum shift. Still all Paul. Tyson resets and moves laterally but throws nothing.

Round 7

Paul’s corner urges him to up his aggression, sensing Tyson could be ripe for the picking. Paul blocks a left hook. Tyson sneaks in a left hook. Jab from Paul, followed by a right cross. Paul seems content to coast to a decision. Three-punch burst from Paul, who then gets back to the jab. Crowd has grown quiet, outside of a few whistles. Overhand right from Paul. Tyson circles modestly. Paul connects with hooks from both hands. Jab from Paul as the round concludes.

Round 8

Last round is underway, and perhaps the final two minutes of Tyson’s illustrious career. One-two from Paul. Overhand right from Paul, who then triples up on his jab. Tyson sneaks in a left hand. Paul resets, then throws a looping uppercut. More jabs from Paul. Thirty seconds to go. Right hook from Paul backs Tyson into the ropes. Looks like we are headed to the judges. Paul bows to Tyson in a show of respect as the final round ends. They embrace.
