Artur Beterbiev vs. Jeff Page Jr.

Round 1

Beterbiev charges at his American foe but misses a right and left. Page looks calm as he flicks his left jab. Beterbiev finally throws his next punch; a left jab that snaps Page’s head back. The Russian-born Montreal fighter digs a left to the body. Page answers with an overhand right but it’s mostly blocked. Page throws a few more jabs but they aren’t forceful. Beterbiev goes to the ribs again but page answers with a right to the head. Beterbiev is the much smoother puncher in the ring where Page is a bit off-balance and sloppy. In control until he walks into a right hand, stumbles backward and goes down just before the bell. He’s up and not hurt. 10-8 Page.

Round 2

Beterbiev comes right out with his jab. Page is on the defensive. Beterbiev begins to really open up his attack. He throws a flurry of shots to the head and body until Page collapses onto the canvas. He easily beats the count and doesn’t appear too shaken as the fight resumes. Page lands a decent left/right midway through the round. Beterbiev misses a wild left hook. Short right hand lands cleanly on Page’s jaw and he’s down. The American bounces up but he’s clearly rocked. Beterbiev swarms him rabidly, lands a few more shots, flooring Page again. The referee smartly stops the bout.

Andre Dirrell vs. Derek Edwards

Round 1

Dirrell paws the right jab immediately. Edwards throws the left hand off the jab and then misses his right. Dwards is aggressive early, trying to goad Dirrell into a slugfest. Dirrell is unfazed and keeps his distance. Dirrell tags him with a jab. Edwards has backed off midway through the round, but he’s still trying to get inside. Hard left/right by Dirrell. Edwards has almost completely backed off from attacking. Dirrell continues to fire the jab, landing many. Three jabs and then a left to the body from the Flint native. Edwards lunges but misses a wild left hook bear the bell. Nice right hand glances Dirrell’s jaw at the bell. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 2

Dirrell begins the round with his right jab over and over. Edwards lands a right over Dirrell’s jab. Nice, stiff right jab by Dirrell after Edwards is warned by referee Steve Willis for a borderline low blow. Dirrell fires off four straight left hands, a right and then another left hand, though most were blocked. Edwards isn’t too fond of the flurry and escapes out the side. Edwards misses a monstrous left hook. Another. The Winston-Salem native is telegraphing his power shots, allowing Dirrell to easily avoid them. Edwards misses three power shots near the bell. Dirrell pops him with a jab coming in. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 3

Edwards charges out of his corner with a moderate flurry of lefts and rights, but they all miss their target. Dirrell cracks him with a left lead left hand and then a short right. Edwards unloads a huge left hook but Dirrell is out of the way before it’s even thrown. Hard left hand by Dirrell that seems to shake Edwards along the ropes. Edwards lands a short right cross. With a minute left in the round, Dirrell is in complete control with that right jab. Dirrell goes back to the lead left and it lands cleanly. Edwards opens up a wild flurry with ten seconds left, misses them all, and then absorbs a triple left from his opponent. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 4

Jab, jab, left hand by Dirrell. Edwards is able to land a nice right hand, but he eats a left/right in return. Edwards leaps forward with a loopy left hook but he smothers himself. Dirrell digs another left to the body. Dirrell pecks away with the jab, keeping the shorter Edwards away. Hard lead left by Dirrell, who follows it up with a left hook. Edwards is shaken by the shots and clinches. Dirrell fires s short right hook on the inside. Dirrell is starting to open his arsenal more but Edwards is tough. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 5

Edwards’ corner is yelling at him, imploring him to tighten up his attacks and get inside between rounds. Dirrell tags him with a left hand as Edwards comes in with a right. They clinch, but Edwards doesn’t do much on the inside. Edwards comes in but he is popped with a left uppercut. Dirrell lands it again and then unfurls a left cross. Edwards is warned again for a low blow. Dirrell is still in complete control with his jab, but he mixes in a left hand for good measure. Edwards is stuck on the outside, where he is unable to get anything going. All Dirrell. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 6

Edwards’ corner is screaming at him, cussing him out and yelling for him to wake up between rounds; Edwards has a stone face. The round starts with Dirrell going back to the jab and then digging a left to the body. Edwards lands a nice left hook to the hip. Hard left cross by Dirrell as they separate. They are forehead-to-forehead, trading blows to the body. Dirrell fires off two uppercuts on the inside. Edwards finally gets going and throws several shots to the head and body, but they are mostly blocked. Hard right to the body, left uppercut by the Flint fighter. Hard left hook rocks Edwards. They keep fighting and Dirrell wobbles Edwards’ knees with a straight left. Edwards is shaken but he’s not backing down. Dirrell is all over him as Edwards finally clinches. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 7

Edwards is slow to get out of his corner but comes right at Dirrell to start the round. They clinch as Edwards tries to maul his taller foe. Hard left hand by Dirrell buckles Edwards’ knees. Another. Edwards isn’t quite ready to go but he’s getting lit up. Edwards clinches again and looks to brawl with him, but Dirrell negates him completely. Dirrell pins him against the ropes and cracks him with a left and a right, but Edwards stays upright. Edwards is doing nothing on the outside, other than eat an assortment of punches. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 8

Edwards takes a few jabs and then shoots in for the clinch. The pace has slowed almost to a crawl as Edwards is looking mostly to clinch. Dirrell jabs and then throws a three-pinch combo to the face. Edwards takes it well, but can’t return fire at all. Finally, Edwards opens up his attack but he’s again smothering his punches by being too close. Nice right hand by Dirrell followed by a left. Edwards is rocked as Andre nails him three more times. Edwards is ready to go but the final left hand misses. Edwards somehow stays on his feet and survives the round. 10-8 Dirrell.

Round 9

Edwards’ corner is threatening to stop the fight between rounds but they don’t. Edwards goes right after Dirrell early but he misses all of his punches. Dirrell snaps his jab out repeatedly. Edwards tries coming in but he can’t. Lead left by Dirrell forces Edwards backward. Edwards walks right into a counter right hand midway through the round. Edwards backs into the ropes and has to block a multi-punch combo. Back to the jab for Dirrell for the remainder of the round. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 10

Edwards shoots the left hand immediately but he misses by quite a bit. Dirrell simply jabs away, preventing any danger from landing. Dirrell lands another lead left, snapping his foe’s had back. Edwards is frustrated in the ring, but he’s not letting his hands go enough, Dirrell is content to pick him apart with his jab. Hard lead left by Dirrell stuns Edwards. Andre goes back to the punch and it seems like Edwards is ready to go, but Dirrell lets him off the hook. They clinch and Edwards swallows a left uppercut. They split and Dirrell nails him with a left uppercut. He follows it up with a flurry but Edwards is not going anywhere. Good action at the bell, but it’s all Dirrell. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 11

Dirrell looks a little busier than usual early with the jab and left hand. Edwards is a statue out there, just blocking and returning no offense. Dirrell is pot-shotting him all over the ring. They clinch but again Edwards does nothing. They continue to clinch and Willis warns Edwards that he’ll take a point if he continues to grab onto Dirrell. The action has turned ugly late with nonstop clinching and mauling. 10-9 Dirrell.

Round 12

As unlikely as it is, Edwards needs some sort of miraculous knockout to win this thing; he’s lost every round. Edwards comes out in the twelfth with zero urgency as Dirrell just jabs away. They trade blows and Edwards lands a huge left hook that buckles Dirrell’s knees. He stumbles back and then plays it off that he’s faking. Dirrell continues to stumble and flail around the ring as Edwards chases him. The comedy stops as Dirrell’s head clears up. Dirrell returns to the jab as the crowd boos. Dirrell backs into a corner and Edwards flails away but he misses his shots. Dirrell reverses the positions and clinches. Another big left hook lands cleanly on Dirrell’s jaw but he’s not too hurt. Edwards comes alive and looks for a sensational stoppage but he runs out of time. 10-9 Edwards (119-108 Dirrell).

Kevin Bizier vs. Jo Jo Dan

Round 1

The welterweights cautiously trade jabs in this rematch; Dan toppled Bizier when they first locked horn. Dan clinches and then goes to the body. They go to the body and then trade jabs. Bizier lands a left hand but it’s not terribly hard. Dan connects with a nice left hand with a minute left. Bizier digs left to the body and then a right to the face. Nice straight right by Bizier late in the round. Very close round but Bizier gets it. 10-9 Bizier.

Round 2

They meet in the center of the ring and trade left hands. Dan opens up with a left/right but Bizier takes them well. Bizier digs a right uppercut to the gut. Bizier looks sharper as he jabs and bounces on his toes. Jo Jo tags him with a right midway through. They clinch and then tear into each other until they are separated. The two rivals rip hooks to the body. Lead left by Dan late in the round but Bizer doesn’t even flinch. They clinch again. Another close round. 10-9 Dan.

Round 3

They trade hooks in the center of the ring and Dan lands a clean left hand on the face. They both open up their attack briefly before clinching. Bizier goes to the jab on the outside. Dan fires off a jab/straight left but the power shot misses. Bizier connects with a straight left counter as Dan comes in. Bizier jabs to the body and then eats a right hand. Dan lands a loopy left hook, but it’s not clean. Bizier shoots a right uppercut on the inside and it lands. Good pace to this fight and each round has been close thus far. 10-9 Bizier.

Round 4

They charge at each other and clinch. From there, they tear into the body until they are separated. They clinch again and the fight is starting to turn a bit ugly. They both land straight left hands and then clinch. Dan looks to get rough on the inside with his clinch. Bizier unfurls a left to the body/left to the head. Dan answers with a left/right to the face. Dan charges in an clinches, but Bizier goes to the body again and again. Bizier lands a short left hand as Dan goes to the body and then clinches. 10-9 Bizier.

Round 5

Dan walks his rival into the ropes and then tags him with a right/left. Bizier comes right back with a right of his own. Dan throws another 1-2 and then a sweeping right hook. Bizier misses with a massive right hook before they clinch. Dan digs four punches to the body on the inside. Jo Jo is warned for repeated clinching midway through the frame. Bizier lands a right as he eats a left. Dan clinches again and again, though Bizier isn’t free of guilt himself. Dan pops him with a loopy overhand left. Bizier bobs and then lads a left hook followed by a right. Dan tags him with a right hook and then is shoved to the canvas when he clinches. 10-9 Dan.

Round 6

Dan comes out with a lead left hand but it’s partially blocked. Bizier is boxing well with his jab as Dan stalks him. They clinch again and the crowd is beginning to grow restless. Bizier goes to the jab/hook combo and it works. Dan just misses with a powerful right hook. They clinch and then tear into each other’s body. Dan tries coming in again but Bizier is there with the right uppercut. Nice right hand by Bizier but Dan answers with two powerful hooks to the gut. They clash heads as they come together but it doesn’t look like either is cut. They rip each other’s ribs as the round closes. 10-9 Dan.

Round 7

Bizier opens the round with a sharp three-punch combo, punctuated by a right hand. They trade flurries on the inside until Bizier connects with a short right hand, dropping Dan. Dan is up and looks okay. They both explode and go toe-to-toe briefly until Bizier nails him with two right hands. Dan comes with a hard right and two lefts. Bizier is now cut badly over his right eye. Hard right hand by Bizier. Another but Dan lands a hard right of his own. Again they go toe-to-toe briefly. Dan clinches after he’s hit with a left hook to the body. Hard right hand by Bizier rocks Dan, who quickly answers with a right. Bizier opens up a huge flurry but Dan is able to avoid most of the shots. 10-8 Bizier.

Round 8

The cut on Bizier is caused by an accidental clash of heads. Dan comes out hard in the eighth as he digs a furious assault to the body. Dan eats a perfect left jab as he comes in. Bizier charges after his foe and lands several short shots as Dan backs away. Jo Jo regroups and returns the fire with a three-punch combo. Bizier is not as active in this round as he has been in the past but Dan has turned up his offense. Dan isn’t landing too many blows but he’s much, much busier. They clinch just before the bell and then Bizier misses with a wild left hook. 10-9 Dan.

Round 9

Dan nails him with a right hook moments into the round and it gets his attention. Bizier answers with a left of his own. Bizier is starting to look a little tired early in the stanza. Dan lands a hard left to the body and Bizier hunches over, possibly hurt. Dan continues to go to the body until Bizier fires off three to the head. They clinch again and Bizier’s energy is slipping away from him. Hard left/right by Dan rakes Bizier’s head back. Dan is stalking down the now-retreating Bizier, who throwing very few punches. Dan has completely taken over the fight late. 10-9 Dan.

Round 10

Dan lands a left hand right away but Bizier answers with a multi-punch shoeshine to the body. Dan lands a hard left to the body and then one to the head. Bizier takes it well, but can’t retaliate before Dan is gone. Bizier is looking more and more exhausted as Dan continues to the go to the ribs. Bizier lands a left hook Dan charges in with shots to the head and body, but Bizier blocks most. Finally, Bizier is able to deliver a left hand jaw on the jaw but Dan takes it well. They clinch and tear into each other’s bodies at the bell. 10-9 Dan.

Round 11

They begin the round in the center of the ring, going toe-to-toe. Dan lands the harder shots but Bizier is awake for the first time in two rounds. Bizier goes right after him, but Dan returns the favor with a sizzling left hook. They continue to wail away with reckless abandonment until Bizier lands a sneaky left hook that buckles Dan’s knees. He recovers quickly and dives right back into the war. Dan digs several thundering body shots to both sides until Bizier grabs on. Dan again goes to the head and body. Bizier is exhausted, possibly punching himself out. Dan is worn as well, but he’s still throwing much more punches. They clinch again and again due to fatigue. They each take as good they give for the final few seconds of the frame but Dan’s shots are harder and cleaner. Very close round. 10-9 Dan.

Round 12

The fight is likely up for grabs entering the final round. Will Bizier avenge the sole loss of his professional career? They start right where they left off in the 11th as they go toe-to-toe briefly. Dan is tagged by a stinging right hand as he charges in but he’s okay. They clinch again and again. Finally they open up their assault on each other’s body. Both men gasp for breath when they are separated. Midway through the round, anything can happen. Dan digs a left uppercut to the body. Again, the two welterweights burrow inside and rip into each other’s bodies. Both men giving it their all with ten seconds left. Bizier just misses a vicious right haymaker at the bell. 10-9 Dan (115-112).

Adonis Stevenson vs. Dmitriy Sukhotskiy

Round 1

Sukhotskiy comes out with his wide-open style and paws with a left jab. Stevenson looks for an opening, pawing with his right jab. A minute in, Stevenson throws the first meaningful punch which is a wild left hand that misses. Sukhotskiy tags him with a short right hand. Midway through the opening round and almost nothing has happened. Adonis jabs to the body twice. The crowd is already booing and this is their hometown hero. Neither man is willing to commit to anything just yet. Stevenson misses a right/left. Adonis goes to the left/right but only lands the right. Very dull, close round but Stevenson’s higher punch output nabbed it for him. 10-9 Stevenson.

Round 2

The two are busier early in the second, though nothing has landed cleanly yet. Stevenson jabs to the body and head, then back down to the body. Sukhotskiy looks like he’s having difficulty figuring out Stevenson’s rhythm. Sukhotskiy paws with his left jab, seemingly unwilling or unable to left anything go. The Haitian backs away, jabbing upstairs and to the body. Huge left hand bomb misses by inches from Adonis. Stevenson lands a right/left that hurts Sukhotskiy, who is then pushed to the canvas. He’s ruled down, gets up and but unhurt very late in the round. 10-8 Stevenson.

Round 3

Replays are inconclusive as to how clean the knockdown was; he clearly shoved the Russian. Sukhotskiy comes alive early and paws his jab a little more than the first two rounds. Stevenson jabs back and goes to the body a few times. Sukhotskiy throws a left hook but misses. Hard right hand by Stevenson is partially blocked, followed by a lead left hand. Sukhotskiy lunges with a right cross and is countered by a short left hand. Adonis nails him with another lead left and it shakes his challenger. Sukhotskiy tosses a double left hook but they both miss. Stevenson obliges and counters with a left of his own. Big left to the head and body buckles Sukhotskiy’s knees. They both miss big shots at the bell. 10-9 Stevenson.

Round 4

Stevenson paws with the jab and then sticks him with two stiff ones. Dmitriy is trying to get inside to land the uppercut, but Stevenson sees it coming, nullifying the attacks. Stevenson again jabs twice to the body. Very little action now as Sukhotskiy is not active whatsoever. The crowd is booing again. Sukhotskiy walks into a counter right hook and then eats a left. Stevenson lands a right/left and then misses a would-be fight ender of a left cross. Adonis crashes a loopy right hook on top of the head and then a left hand. Sukhotskiy take it well just before the bell. 10-9 Stevenson.

Round 5

Stevenson opens the round with a triple right jab and then a left hand. Hard left to the body hurts Sukhotskiy, who retreats. Stevenson doesn’t chase after him and instead opts to jab at him when the Russian returns. Right to the body and then a huge straight left hand floors Sukhotskiy straight onto his back. He barely gets up and is allowed to continue. Another left hand sends him to the seat of his trunks. He’s up at six and is given the green light to continue. Stevenson pounces on him and unloads a cornucopia of power shots. Sukhotskiy is somehow staying upright and fighting back. Huge straight left hand detonates on Sukhotskiy’s jaw, flattening him on his back. Sukhotskiy is out cold from the highlight reel knockout. Sukhotskiy’s mouthpiece is laying on his face as he finally comes to without any clue as to what happened. Official time of the knockout is 2:42 of the fifth round, allowing Stevenson to defend his WBC/Ring Magazine/Lineal light heavyweight title for the fourth time.
