By The Numbers: UFC Fight Night 231 Pre-Fight Edition

Jailton Almeida will put his nerve to the test in the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight division when he tackles Derrick Lewis in the UFC Fight Night 231 headliner on Saturday at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Lewis, a former Legacy Fighting Championship titleholder, steps in as a short-notice substitution for Elevation Fight Team’s Curtis Blaydes.

As UFC Fight Night “Almeida vs. Lewis” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the bill bring to the table:

112: Significant strikes by which Almeida has outlanded his five UFC opponents. He has connected with 114 such strikes while absorbing only two of them in return.

400,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Lewis across his 27 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” five times and “Fight of the Night” three times.

12: Gabriel Bonfim wins by submission, accounting for 80% of his career total (15). His methods of choice: four rear-naked chokes, four guillotine chokes, two arm-triangle chokes, one triangle choke and one shoulder choke. Bonfim confronts Nicolas Dalby in the three-round welterweight co-main event.

13: Men other than Dalby who have held the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship welterweight crown. The list: Dan Hardy (twice), Adrian Degorski, Abdul Mohamed, Forrest Petz, Pascal Krauss, Gael Grimaud, Cathal Pendred, Karl Amoussou, Stefano Paterno, Ross Houston, Mason Jones, Ian Garry and Rhys McKee.

6: First-round finishes on the Rodrigo Nascimento resume, though none of them have taken place in the UFC. The American Top Team export rematches Don’Tale Mayes in a three-round heavyweight showcase.

8: Organizations in which Mayes has plied his MMA trade. He has gone 3-3 with one no contest in the UFC, 2-1 in Dana White’s Contender Series, 1-0 in V3 Fights, 1-0 in Victory Fighting Championship, 1-0 in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, 1-0 in Hoosier Fight Club, 1-0 in Hardrock MMA and 0-1 in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance.

3,031: Days since Caio Borralho last experienced a setback. He dropped a unanimous decision to Joao Carvalho under the Bradar Fight banner on July 18, 2015. Borralho risks his 14-fight unbeaten streak on the line against Abusupiyan Magomedov in a three-round middleweight attraction.

14: Magomedov victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 56% of his career total (25). His list of victims includes Dustin Stoltzfus, Anderson Goncalves, Danillo Villefort and Jessin Ayari.

5: Countries in which Rodolfo Vieira has fought as a mixed martial artist. The 2015 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Fighting World Championship gold medalist has gone 3-2 in the United States, 3-0 in his native Brazil, 1-0 in Australia, 1-0 in Poland and 1-0 in Uruguay. Vieira toes the line against Armen Petrosyan in a three-round middleweight feature.

128: Total strikes landed by Petrosyan in his split decision over Gregory Rodrigues at UFC Fight Night 202 in February 2022. It established a personal high-water mark for the Armenian that stands to this day.

25: Seconds needed for Ismael Bonfim to punch out Mario Cesar at a Shooto Brazil show on July 12, 2013. More than a decade later, it remains his fastest finish to date. Bonfim sets his sights on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 15 semifinalist Vinc Pichel in a three-round lightweight appetizer.

40: Years of age for Pichel. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born on Nov. 23, 1982 in Lancaster, California—some 70 miles north of Los Angeles.

23: Years of age for Denise Gomes. The youngest fighter on the card, she was born in Sao Leopoldo, Brazil, on Dec. 30, 1999. Gomes matches wits and fists with former Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder Angela Hill in a three-round women’s strawweight prelim.

.818: Cumulative winning percentage between the 26 fighters slated to compete at the event. They boast a combined record of 394-87-2. Lewis has the most victories (27) of anyone on the card, while Hill has been saddled with the most losses (13).
