The Walkmen: UFC on Fox 18

UFC on Fox 18 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey was loaded with action and sensational stoppages. As has become the norm, the walkout music the fighters chose to get into fight mode -- an eclectic mix of orchestra, metal, rock, hip hop and pop -- was one of the interesting side stories at the Prudential Center.

Anthony Johnson used his moment in the spotlight to make a statement, as he iced Ryan Bader in the first round of their light heavyweight main event. He captured the mood of his walkout tack, Young Money and Lil Wayne’s “Moment,” and remained in the title picture at 205 pounds. Bader walked to the cage to The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black,” but the only thing that went black was the room when Johnson pounded his head with ground-and-pound.

Meanwhile, Josh Barnett walked out to his tradition Bolt Thrower entrance track, the classic death metal cut “The IVth Crusade.” Unfortunately for the former UFC heavyweight champion, his co-main event crusade ended in the second round, where Ben Rothwell pulled off a shocker and submitted Barnett by 10-finger guillotine choke. Rothwell thrived in his role as the hunter, which was fitting when considering he was brought to the Octagon by “Vampire Hunters,” from the “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” soundtrack.

Other noteworthy choices: Carlos Diego Ferreira (“Twist and Shout,” The Beatles), Alexander Yakovlev (“Warriors of the World Unite,” Manowar), Bryan Barberena (“Hotstepper,” Ini Kamoze), Dustin Ortiz (“God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” Johnny Cash) and Wilson Reis (Notorious Thugs,” Notorious B.I.G.).
