Rakhmonov Injures Knee, Pulled From M-1 Challenge 75 Title Fight

The recently-announced matchup between Shavkat Rakhmonov and welterweight champion Alexey Kunchenko, slated for M-1 Challenge 75, has been given the axe. Rakhmonov suffered a serious knee injury has forced him off the marquee, and M-1 Global hasn’t yet announced a replacement.

“I wanted this fight badly and put a lot of effort into preparation for it,” said Rakhmonov, who was gearing up for his first-ever world title fight, explained. “Unfortunately, I tore ligaments in my knee and, based on my medical exam, I will need surgery soon. I apologize to all the MMA fans who were anticipating this fight. I'll do my best to return stronger than ever.”

A battle between Sergey Romanov and Magomed Sultanakhmedov, also at 170 pounds, is still a go for the event. M-1 Challenge 75 takes place on March 3 in Moscow and will stream live on M1Global.tv.
