Inside the Venue: LG Arena

A quick look inside the LG Arena, site of UFC 138 “Leben vs. Munoz” on Saturday ...

Location: Birmingham, England
Opened: 1982
Seating Capacity: 16,000

The Ultimate Fighting Championship visits the United Kingdom for the first time since October 2010, when UFC 138 “Leben vs. Munoz” descends upon the LG Arena on Saturday in Birmingham, England. The event features a five-round non-title bout between middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Munoz, along with a pivotal bantamweight encounter pitting Nova Uniao standout Renan “Barao” do Nascimento Mota Pegado and American Top Team’s Brad Pickett.

The LG Arena -- formerly the NEC Arena -- is part of the National Exhibition Centre, a 628-acre complex with 21 interconnected halls. LG purchased naming rights to the venue in 2008, and the arena underwent a subsequent $47 million overhaul that added seating, hospitality areas and a forum containing new bars, restaurants and other customer facilities. An estimated 35 million people live within a two-hour drive of the LG Arena.

WWE “Smackdown” (Nov. 7), Rhianna (Nov. 18), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Nov. 19), Duran Duran (Dec. 2) and the Harlem Globetrotters (March 27) will follow the UFC into the venue.
